
Royals sweep Pirates out of playoffs
For the second year in a row the top seed Tavistock Royals beat the Pirates four straight games in their AA quarter final series.
The Pirates managed to compete keeping the scores a little closer losing game three at home by a score of 6-3. Game four in Tavistock the Pirates trailed 5-0 going into the third period. With their season on the line the Pirates attempted a comeback but when the final buzzer sounded the Royals completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory on home ice. Pirates long time forward Sean Burton had a pair a goals and a assist in the final period and his final game of his Senior AA career. Dave Meriam also nothched a goal and a assist his his final game of his Senior AA career. The Pirates would like to thank Sean and Dave for their dedication with the Pirates. Sean played 14 seasons with the Pirates playing in 325 regular season games scoring 214 goals adding 254 assist for a Pirates giving him the all time scoring leader of 468 points in a Pirates jersey. Dave Meriam played in 187 regular season games scoring 105 goals assisting on 159 giving him a career regular season total of 264 points putting him in third on the all time Pirates regular season stats trailing second place Darrell Durnin by 22 points. The Goderich Pirates would like to thank all their fans for their support during the 2011/2012 season. The Pirates will be handing out team awards on Saturday February 25 at their annual year end banquet.
