
Pirates upset Tillsonburg in overtime
The Goderich Pirates travelled to Tillsonburg Saturday night with a short bench only able to dress ten skaters and still managed to win 7-6 in overtime.
With the win the Pirates clinch a playoff berth after hearing the news that Thedford was defeated by Milverton 6-5. Pirates forward Glen McCarron scored another hat-trick for the Pirates and also added three assist on the night giving him a two game weekend total of six goals and five assists. The Pirates special teams was dominate on this night scoring five powerplay goals and also a shorthanded goal by Josh Gaynor to send the game into overtime with a little over four minutes to play in the game. Tillsonburg took a hooking penalty with 1:22 to play in the third period. The Pirates took a timeout right after the penalty was called to get a little extra rest. The Pirates kept control of the puck for the remaining 1:22 to earn the one point and than scored 23 seconds into overtime on the powerplay when McCarron blasted a shot off the post and in. Kyle Provily and Mike Gillen got the assist on the overtime winner. Other Pirates goal scorers were Jeff Silver, Dave Meriam, and Kyle Provily.
Up next for the Pirates is their final regular season game against the Monkton Wildcats at the MRC this Friday night January 27 at 8:30pm. The Pirates still have a chance of moving up in the standings if they beat the Wildcats Friday night.
