Sean Burton records 500th career assist
Submitted By Trevor Bazinet on Wednesday, November 30, 2011
Sean Burton tallied his 500th career assist Friday night and also scored on a breakaway to leave him seven points shy of a 1000 for his career.

The Pirates are still winless at the MRC this year after this past Friday night. On a night when Sean Burton grabbed his 500th career assist the Pirates were still unable to come away with a home win losing to the Tillsonburg Thunder by a score of 6-4. The game was 3-3 after two periods of play but Tillsonburg scored three times in the third period when the game mattered most. The Pirates actually held a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Devin Johnston assisted by Kyle Provily and Sean Burton and Chris MacKay assisted by Provily and Mike Bean. Chris MacKay notched his second goal of the game in the second period with the assist going to Mike Gillen. The Thunder banged away three unaswered goals in the third period to take a 6-3. Sean Burton than scored his his 493rd career goal on a breakaway from a beautiful feed from Chris MacKay and Mike Gillen with over three minutes to play in the third. The Pirates kept the pressure on with goalie Tyler Koot pulled with almost two minutes left in the game but were unable to score when it mattered most. The Pirates now have two home games this weekend at the MRC where they are still struggling to find a way to win on their home ice. Up first is the Monkton Wildcats this Friday December 2 at 8:30pm. Than they play their highway 8 rivals the Clinton Radars who they beat in their home opener at the Memorial arena but the win was overturned due to Jeff Silver having a carry over suspension with the Lucan-Ilderton Jets the prior year that the Pirates had no idea about. "This weekend will be the turning point of our season if we can pull out two wins it puts us right back in the thick of things. If we lose both well than we will simply be digging ourselves a huge hole to climb out of and that is something we do not want to do" stated Head Coach/General Manager Trevor Bazinet.
