Pirates win game 2 in overtime
Submitted By Trevor Bazinet on Saturday, March 06, 2010
The Goderich Pirates found a way to battle back once again and take a 2 game to nothing lead in their best of seven finals against Drayton.

The Pirates fought back after trailing 2-0 after the first period and 2-1 after the second period to win in a thrilling overtime game by a score of 4-3. Scoring the overtime winner was defenceman Adam Rudd assisted by Scott Jamieson. The Pirates were actually a man short for 11 seconds when Matt MacPhee was called for hooking but 11 seconds later Drayton sniper John Thiel was called for slashing which brought on some exciting 4 on 4 play. Other goal scorers for the Pirates were Matt MacPhee shorthanded assisted by Scott Austin and Kyle Hamilton. Sean Burton scored in the third to tie the game at 2-2 but Drayton scored less than a minute later to take a 3-2 lead in the third. Dave Meriam tied the match up 5:48 left in the third on a nice pass from Scott Jamieson and Mike Gillen. Than Adam Rudd sealed the win in overtime with a rocket that hit the top corner for the win and a 2 nothing series lead. Ryan Shelton got the win in net stopping 41 of Drayton's 44 shots while the Pirates fired 49 shots at Drayton's goalie Liam Johnston. Game 3 is in Drayton this Sunday at 2pm with game 4 also in Drayton Friday March 12 at 9:30pm.
